34 people died in Haridwar after consuming spurious alcohol; Death toll might go up

34 PEOPLE DIED IN HARIDWAR AFTER ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION, DEATH TOLL MIGHT GO UP

Around 34 people died after consuming Spurious alcohol in Haridwar district of Uttarakhand. 10 people are already hospitalised, police sources said the death may increase.

According to report, the villagers consumed liquor containing dangerous methyl alcohol. An enquiry has been put up to investigate regarding the incident, Uttarakhand state Excise and Finance Minister Prakash Pant said.

“A dozen of officials of the State Excise department in Haridwar district have been suspended after the incident”, said Pant.

At first, reports informed the death of 14 people after which nine more people died of the same reason in bordering Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh, police said. “We are investigating the matter, special teams have been made to search the culprits”, Director General of Police Anil Raturi said.

Meanwhile, Saharanpur Senior Superintendent of Police Dinesh Kumar confirmed the death of other nine people from the district.

According to sources, people after consuming liquor started vomiting. They were rushed to the nearby hospital were all 14 died.

Uttarakhand Governor Baby Rani Maurya and Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat expressed shock and grief over the incident. They have also asked the officials to provide best medical facilities to the hospitalized people.
