While the ongoing coronavirus lockdown caused many men and women across the world to grow their head and beards longer than usual, here is Vietnam’s Nguyen Van Chien who has been growing hair from almost 80years without a trim.

The 92-year-old Nguyen Van Chien from the Southern Mekong Delta Region of Vietnam is the proud owner of the five-meter long dreadlocks, owing to his belief in a faith that states leaving untouched completely what a person is born with.

The 92 years old Nguyen worships nine power and seven gods and has not even washed or combed his hair for 80 years now. He believes it is his calling to grow his hair, which he bundles up under an orange turban .

On being asked about his belief Mr. Chien told Reuters that “I believe if I cut my hair I will die. I dare not change anything, not even combing it, “

” I only nurture it, cover it in a scarf to keep it dry and clean and looking nice, “

Mr. Nguyen was required and asked to trim at school, but he decided to leave his school after third grade and decided never to cut, comb, and wash it again.

Mr. Nguyen follows a faith known as Dua or the coconut religion which is named after its founder who claimed to survive only on coconuts to retain his vitality.

Although Dua is banned and categorized as a false belief in Vietnam Mr. Chien follows it with full faith and his fifth son Luom helps him to manage his giant locks.
Meanwhile Luom also believes in the connection between hair and mortality.
