Police have detained 47-year-old Robert Solis, although it is not yet clear whether it was racial assault or hate crime. People are remembering Dhaliwal as a hero.

Sandeep Singh Dhaliwal made history when he was allowed to wear a turban and keep a beard even while on duty. He was the first police officer in America, who was allowed to wear a turban and shave. The police department was forced to believe that a person would not have to choose a service career or religious faith.

He always came forward to help others and Social service was his passion. During the devastation caused by Hurricane Maria in 2017, he took part in Puerto Rico access relief and rescue work. He was highly praised for this. That year he was also associated with a non-profit Sikh organization and supplied essential goods by filling trucks in the floods during Hurricane Hurricane in Texas and Louisiana. He was one of the first to provide humanitarian aid to the victims during the hurricane.
