Black Man shot multiple times by a White Officer, raises protests in US

Kenosha, US: On Sunday Night, a video went viral showing a 29- year old black man Jacob Blake being shot and wounded from behind multiple times by a white police officer with his children watching the whole scene.

Blake, after the incident was airlifted towards the hospital in Milwaukee and was in a critical condition, but the police told the media on Monday afternoon that Blake’s family said he was through with the surgery and improving.

Since the video went viral, the people of Kenosha County started protests on Monday to demand racial justice for the Blake and his family. According to an AFP reporter, a curfew was imposed on Kenosha County at 8:00 pm (0100 GMT on Tuesday), local police dressed in crowd control gear and began pushing the protesters back and prevent them from entering the county courthouse using tear gas.

The police started firing tear gas after protesters were throwing water bottles on them. Some of them were even launched fireworks and more water bottles on the officers.

Later, some protesters broke streetlights and set fire on a nearby building.

After some hours during the protests, hundreds of demonstrators started chanting “No justice, no peace” and “Say his name- Jacob Blake!”

Kenosha County, on the shores of Lake Michigan, Wisconsin declared a curfew from 8:00 pm to 7:00 am in the morning after protesters damaged several vehicles and government properties late Sunday.

“The public needs to be off the streets for their safety.” The county sheriff said in a statement.

Tony Evers, the governor of Wisconsin, sent 125 members of the national security on Monday to the city to maintain law and order. He also requested the protesters to maintain peace by saying: “We must see the trauma, fear and exhaustion of being black in our state and our country.”

Three months earlier a footage went viral where another Afro-American black man George Floyd became victim of racism and police brutality in which he was killed by a white police officer Derek Chauvin at Minneapolis, Minnesota which lead to the nationwide protests against racism.
