21 -year-old Indian Mathematics Wizard Neelakanta Bhanu Prakash bags “World Fastest Human Calculator ” Title

Hailing from Hyderabad Neelakanta Bhanu Prakash, a  student of Mathematics at Delhi’s St Stephen’s College now holds the world record for being the ‘ Fastest Human Calculator ‘ and has won the first gold medal for India at the Mental Calculation World Championship at Mind Sports Olympiad held in London recently.

Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic Mind Sports Olympiad (MS0) was held virtually this year. MSO is the most prestigious international competition for games of mental skill and mind sports.

Coming from a family with no mathematics background, Neelakanta Bhanu Prakash is proud to have taken the gold with 167 points beating a Lebanese who lag in second place with 102 points. The MSO competition had 30 participants. At one point, Bhanu Prakash was so correct and accurate with his calculations that event organizers have to conduct a recheck of the decimal point also in his answer which eventually found to be correct.

 Neelakanta Bhanu Prakash thirst for numbers and figures was honed when he won he won his first trophy at the age of eight in a local competition. He started from   local and then simultaneously went on to national and international levels.

Bhanu Prakash now has some records under his hat which was previously held by mathematics wizards like Scott Flansburg and Shakuntala Devi.

 Bhanu Prakash also had a start-up called Exploring Infinities, which aims at developing cognitive abilities in children through arithmetic learning.

On being asked about his plans Bhanu Prakash said that he aims to engage with corporate audiences and adults to inculcate some mathematical learning which can help people in doing brain workouts.

 Neelakanta Bhanu Prakash also has the vision to create “Vision Math” Labs and reach out to millions of people in loving mathematics.
