Sanju, the much-anticipated biopic on controversial Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt, arrived in the cinemas today. The film, directed by Rajkumar Hirani, is being seen as an extremely crucial film for its lead star Ranbir Kapoor in relation to his standing at the box-office. Ranbir, in the last five years, hasn’t delivered a full-blown hit. The actor’s last proper hit was Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013) that earned over Rs 188 crore at the box-office, also his biggest hit ever. Will Sanju turn out to be a game-changer for Ranbir Kapoor?
“Not just this film but the journey from this point onwards will be a game-changer for Ranbir Kapoor. The kind of choices that he has made after this film, whether its Shamshera or Brahmastra, we are looking at a brand new Ranbir Kapoor who is thinking mainstream commercial cinema,” said film trade analyst Akshaye Rathi, conviction in his voice.
“Over the last 10 years, Ranbir was, kind of, proving to the world that he is a great actor. I don’t think he needs to do that. He has proven that he is a phenomenal actor, one of the best in this country as of today. Now it’s time for him to prove his stardom not acting chops,” Akshaye said further.
Akshaye asserted that Ranbir, given the choices he has made after Sanju, will go on to become one of the biggest stars of this country.
“And I think with the kind of mainstream commercial films he is beginning to choose now, he is going to show the world what a star he is. Going by his choices, I bet he is going to be among the biggest stars this country has ever seen,” he signed off saying.
