Ranveer Singh to be trained by Kapil Dev for ’83’

Ever since it was announced that Ranveer Singh will portray the role of Kapil Dev in the movie 83 based on India’s historic 1983 world cup win, audiences are eagerly waiting for every minor information related to this film. Historically, Bollywood film-makers have never been high on sports. Be it sports in general or real-life sporting heroes/ stories in particular, sports films have been few and far between. But of late, movies such as Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and MS Dhoni: The Untold Story have done extremely well and a number of them are also in various stages of production. In the latest instance, film-maker Kabir Khan and Ranveer Singh have joined hands for a film based on India’s victory at the 1983 Cricket World Cup.

In 83, Ranveer will enact the role of Kapil Dev under whose outstanding captaincy India made history in England. “Members of the 1983 World Cup squad will be helping us, they will be there as consultants and coaches for the team. It will begin next year,” Kabir said in an interview.

The director insisted that they will not go for any change to make Ranveer look like Kapil Dev as it is not a biopic on the former Indian captain but actually a chronicle of the historical journey of the 1983 World Cup win.
The first schedule of the film will reportedly be in London and the preparation is already underway. The first schedule will be widely shot in London as the city is an important plot in the film. The makers are planning to shoot the entire World Cup sequence on the first schedule.
