India’s first film museum where the evolution of Indian cinema is been shown is built in Mumbai. Starting from black and white films to colourful blockbuster films is traced in the new museum in Mumbai.

The museum is spread across a stylish 19th century bungalow and a modern five-storey glass structure in south Mumbai.

“It briefly explains the outside world of what Indian Cinema has achieved in its existence which is more than 100 years”, says Amrit Gangar, a consulting curator on the project.

India as on today, produces 1500 films every year. The museum has many memorable things, recordings, film-making tools as well as touch screens for visitors to watch their memorable scenes from movies.

There are also hand-painted posters, including Satyajit Ray’s 1955 ‘Pather Panchali’, a statue of Bollywood icon Raj Kapoor. The museum not only serves Bollywood but also movies of various regions and languages across India.
