Cherishing the birthday of Legendary artist Gulzar as he turns 86 today.

Gulzar born as Sampoorna Singh Kalra is one of India’s foremost writers in Urdu and Hindi. Gulzar has written dialogues, screenplays, lyrics and even directed some of the blockbuster films of Hindi cinema. The multi-talented artist Gulzar celebrates his 86th birthday today.

Gulzar began his film career as a songwriter with music director SD Burman for film Bandini (1963). His song “Humne Dekhi hai Un Aankhon ki Mehekti Khushboo” Sung by Lata Mangeshkar went on to become a classic. Gulzar had worked with veteran music composers including RD Burman, Shankar Jaikishan, Laxmikant Pyarelal, Vishal Bharadwaj, AR Rahman, Shankar Ehsaan Loy and many more.

Gulzar is a Padma Bhushan Awardee and has been honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award and the Sahitya Akademi Award. Gulzar has been awarded Grammy and Oscar for his song, Jai Ho for Slumdog Millionaire and has five National and 21 Filmfare awards in his tally.

Gulzar was fond of legendary Urdu poet Mirza Ghalib and his life and have created a series for DD in the 1980s starring Naseeruddin Shah as Ghalib.

Gulzar is fondly known as ”Gulzar Sahab” by his fans and on the occasion of his 86th birthday let’s cherish his most popular songs.
